About the producer

Fattoria San Lorenzo is a third generation family winery that works organically and biodynamically. The estate got it’s first organic certification in 1991. Natalino Crognaletti has been running the estate since 1995 after inheriting it from his father Gino. Gino worked mainly as an expert pruner and clone selector and taught his son how to treat the vines and work the land. The vineyards are situated in and around Montecarotto in the Italian Marche. Fattoria San Lorenzo produces wines that go against commercial trends and approval through standardization.

Natalino works the vineyards with his mother, Vera Biondini. The vines grow on grassy ground and are fertilized with hay and green manure and processed without synthetic products and weeding. All work is done by human hand to preserve the vines, the soil and the environment. The wine is made with minimal intervention, using only indigenous yeasts and minimal addition of sulfur. To enrich his wines Natalino uses high extraction for his red wines and the whites lie on their lees for months or even years.

The soil in the area is made up of marine and alluvial sediment. This makes for clay and limestone-rich soils. About 30 km from the Adriatic sea, cool winds help maintain a moderate climate. The estate lies behind the hills of Poggio San Marcello and on the banks of the Esino river.

The wines of Fattoria San Lorenzo are full of character and have great ageing potential.
