Qvevri Don Alfio 2020 is the sixth release from this isolated high-altitude vineyard near the 1923 lava flow in Piano Filici. The vineyard is largely Nerello Mascalese with a small amount of Nerello Cappuccio, and the fruit was hand-destemmed into a 1000-liter Georgian qvevri, macerated for one month on skins, then returned to qvevri for élevage on fine lees before bottling. The wine shows dark cherry and dried fruit with floral tones, plus licorice, chocolate, savory notes, firm acidity, and well-structured tannins that will soften with time.
