This is the first time Vino di Anna has produced this cuvée, which is composed of three distinct parts:
40% comes from a vineyard of old Grecanico (mostly Grecanico Dorato). These grapes were macerated for a week before fermenting in chestnut barrels.
40% comes from the high-altitude ‘Vigna Nave’ vineyard, planted over 20 years ago by Salvo Foti. This vineyard features a white field blend of Riesling, Chenin Blanc, and Carricante in equal parts (amongst some other experimental plantings like Gewürtztraminer). The fruit was whole-bunch pressed directly into old chestnut barrels. –
The final 20% comes from another parcel, a field blend of Carricante, Catarratto, Minnella Bianca, and Insolia. These grapes were also whole-bunch pressed and fermented in a 20hl French wooden cask.
The wine offers powerful herbal aromatics and a striking tension. It combines vibrant, acid-driven grapefruit bitterness with a saline minerality. After opening up with some air, it reveals beautiful ripe stone fruits, mellowing its energetic reduction. For us, it is a wine that captivates with its complexity, perfect for slow contemplation, yet has a juicy quality that could make it vanish like water. As one of the staff’s favorites, it continues to offer a rewarding experience with every encounter.
