A blend of local red varieties—mostly Merlot, with possible additions of Pignolo or Refosco—grown on the steep slopes of Oslavia and fermented on the skins in buried amphorae for several months. After pressing, the wine spent five years aging in large oak casks, followed by nine more in bottle before release—fourteen years in total before it saw the world.
The 2007 vintage benefited from near-perfect conditions, marked by extended dry spells and well-timed rainfall. The result is a deep, dark wine that remains remarkably vibrant. Aromas of black cherry, leather, dried herbs, tobacco, and spice lead into a palate defined by fine, dusted tannins and a long, savory, mineral-driven finish. The structure is resolved yet textured, offering a wine of depth and quiet power. Gravner’s red wines may be less talked about, but are equally monumental nonetheless.
