Les Grandes Hermines is a Loire Valley Chenin Blanc made by Les Vins de la Gabare (a collaboration involving Nicolas Reau and local growers). Grapes are 100% Chenin Blanc, organically farmed; fermentation is with native yeasts, minimal sulphur, and there is zero fining or filtration. On the nose, there is candied lemon peel, yellow peach, touches of nuts and honey complemented by subtle floral and waxy notes. The palate is medium-bodied, textured, with good acidity, an oily/creamy (but not heavy) mouthfeel, slight nuttiness, and a dry finish with stone fruit nuance and salinity.
