Originating from the sun-drenched, south-facing 1.5-hectare Les Enfers vineyard in Noizay, the name “Enfers” translates to “hell,” which may refer to the challenging nature of this terroir. The 50-year-old vines grow on perruches soil—flinty clay-limestone that is notoriously difficult to work. Fermented in stainless steel before gentle gravity racking into 4-12-year-old barrels, this wine spends one year in barrel followed by an additional 12 months in stainless steel, showcasing a pure expression of terroir. As Michel describes it, Les Enfers Tranquilles is known for its tension, crystalline quality, length, and balance.
In contrast to the 2020 vintage, 2021 provided a more balanced growing season, resulting in a wine that is leaner, muscular, and marked by precise minerality. The wine exhibits electric acidity, which is incredibly well-balanced with a crystalline finish. While it is already drinking beautifully, this vintage also boasts significant aging potential, delivering remarkable energy and freshness.
