The “G” stands for Grecanico, the dominant grape variety in this cuvée, with most being the Grecanico Dorato strand, which is typical of the higher northwestern part of Etna. The grapes were sourced from several small, high-altitude vineyards with vines around 80 years old. The Grecanico was macerated on the skins for 3 days, foot-trodden several times, and then fermented in stainless steel. The other native varieties—Carricante, Minnella Bianca, and Insolia—were whole-bunch pressed into an old 11hl chestnut cask. The wine was left on fine lees for 12 months before bottling.
The wine has a straw-like color with an open, inviting nose. Aromas of ripe stone fruits are present, though less opulent than in warmer vintages, focusing more on fresh lemon and lime. It is well-balanced with a wet, flinty, and mineral-driven profile, offering both freshness and complexity. In our book, one of the best whites Etna has to offer!
