Vigna Pirao Rosso 2022 was made in very small quantity, only 650 bottles, from surviving pre-phylloxera Nerello Mascalese bush vines together with a little fruit from newer own-root massale-selection plantings higher on the site. The old and new vine fruit were vinified separately in small tubs and glass vessels, then basket pressed after eight days and aged on lees in glass for a year before bottling in spring 2024. Pale crimson and very pure, it shows wild strawberry, pomegranate, cranberry, crunchy mineral character, salinity, and fine austere tannin.
